OrganizationThe International Year of Planet Earth is a joint initiative by UNESCO and the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS). 11 Founding Partners, 25 Associate Partners and 27 International Partner organizations (01 June 2009) from all continents and representing all major geoscientific communities in the world, have embarked on this initiative. Moreover, all 192 UN member countries supported the UN Resolution proclaiming the IYPE for 2008. By 2009, National Committees have been established in 80 countries and regions in the world. IYPE is a not-for-profit and non-religious Corporation, registered in the USA. It has a Board, a Secretariat (based in Norway) and 3 Advisory bodies. |
